Taveuni Dive Resort | Diving the Soft Coral Capital of the World

In the north of Fiji, Taveuni is where you will find the Somosomo Strait, with world-famous spots such as The Great White Wall and Rainbow Reef. Named the 'Garden Island' due to the colourful profusion of tropical plants and flowers, Taveuni is surrounded by waters as rich as its topside flora, making it Fiji's unofficial diving capital.

This is an island of lush rainforest, free from population centres or tourist 'hot-spots', making it a choice location to sample all the wonders of Fiji. Although it retains an off-the-beaten track atmosphere, this is the country's third largest island, lying to the east of Viti Levu across the astonishing waters of the world-famous Somosomo Strait.

Taveuni has a lot of things to do yet it maintains its island charm and natural appearance. The rugged coastlines rise up to vaulting volcanic peaks that make the soil as fertile as anywhere in Fiji.

While scuba diving is the number one activity, many tourists come to trek to distant lakes and waterfalls, to enjoy the variety of birdlife on the island, to ride horses from one secluded bay to the next, or to partake of the many watersports on offer. For those seeking an active vacation, there are lots of options and the island is easy to get around.

Bula! Welcome to Taveuni, Fiji.

Fiji is known as the “Soft Coral Capital of the World” and is also home to the “World Famous Rainbow Reef” located in an area that is described as Fiji’s ‘far north’. A network of brilliant coral reefs surrounds our 333 islands and atolls with Rainbow Reef being situated in the Somosomo Strait between the islands of Taveuni and Vanua Levu. Due to the location of Rainbow Reef at the narrowest point between these 2 islands, the ocean currents come in and go out twice a day and feed this reef system with billions of gallons of cool nutrient rich waters. These tidal flows feed and sustain the corals and aquatic life. With around 1000 species of fish and several hundred types of coral and sponges, Fiji offers a unique diving experience. With over 4000 square miles of coral reef, Fiji Islands offer divers unparalleled marine biodiversity. A ‘not to be missed dive’ is one of the consistently rated top dive sites in the world – “The Great White Wall”. Divers return to Taveuni year after year to see this awe-inspiring dive site.
Many say Rainbow Reef is the reason Fiji is known as the soft coral capital of the world. You’ll see soft corals in every colour of the rainbow. Besides the countless species of fish and diversity of coral, you’ll find yourself discovering macro critters you have never seen in any other dive location in the world. As Fiji is also known as the ‘Islands of the Sharks’ you’ll see sharks on a nearly daily basis. White Tip, Black Tip and Grey Reef sharks are most common on Rainbow Reef in and around the 24 plus dive sites on offer. There are occasions when a lone Tiger Shark may swim by, Bull Shark sightings are possible, and Manta Rays come and go with the seasons. Turtles dot the dive sites and are always a pleasure to see.

Fiji is easily accessible through convenient, non-stop flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu and now Singapore aboard Fiji Airways.
