Kailash Saga Dawa Tibetan Festival; May 16 – Jun 05, 2018
Classic small group adventure from USD $5,499 per person.
Journey overland to Tibet and cross the ‘roof of the world’ to Kailash—Asia's most sacred mountain—in time for the amazing Saga Dawa Festival. You'll embark on a demanding multi-day trek around the holy mountain, which is said to bring good luck to whomever completes it, then join pilgrims and celebrate the renewal of the Tarboche flagpole. Explore Lhasa and experience unparalleled vistas of Mt Everest at its base camp. Full of cultural treasures, remarkable Buddhist monasteries, and the colourful markets of Kathmandu, this adventure truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This itinerary has been updated from an overland border crossing into Nepal, to include a flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu to end the tour. Damage to the Tibet-Nepal highway due to the 2015 earthquake has left roads closed, meaning a flight is currently the only way to travel between the two countries. It is unknown when the highway will reopen and no overland travel will be possible between these two destinations for the foreseeable future.
