Then an overland drive to the remote spectacular mountain karst landscapes of Vang Vieng before concluding the trip with a short visit to Vientiane.

Laos Overland Itinerary

This tour can depart Singapore on any Monday or Saturday.

Welcome to the spiritual capital of Laos.

Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, your guide/driver will greet you and transfer you to your hotel for check-in.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

After breakfast, we will head off on bicycles to see some of the highlights of Luang Prabang including a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts from the royal period in Luang Prabang.

Cycling on, we are seeing the city’s oldest temples, the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roof sweeping low to the ground, representing classical Lao architecture, the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham.

After lunch, relax at your hotel till late afternoon visit the Arts and Ethnology Centre to learn about Laos’ many ethnic cultures.

You can enjoy a coffee at the center’s café if you like before our climb to the top of Mount Phousi to explore the sacred gilded stupa and to enjoy the panoramic view of the city and the sun setting over the Mekong river.

Descending the mountain you will find yourself in the midst of the famous Luang Prabang Night Market, where you can find a unique selection of handmade textiles and handicrafts locally made by both ethnic Lao and the hill tribe people.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, drive to Kuang Si Waterfall. En route visit the morning Phousi Market where all locals will come to do their daily shopping. You will see a variety of local foodstuff and products including dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, fish, vegetables and fruit, everything needed for daily life in Laos.

On arrival at the Kuangsi Waterfalls you will have the opportunity to cool off with a refreshing swim in the topaz pools below the falls, walk along the forest trails, and to visit the Bear Sanctuary.

Enjoy a picnic lunch below the falls.

Back at Luang Prabang, we board our private boat for a pleasant and scenic cruise up on the Mekong river to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. These caves are an ancient pilgrimage site and contain thousands of gold lacquered Buddha images left there over hundreds of years.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

After breakfast depart for a drive down the spectacular Route 13 towards Vang Vieng, taking roughly 5 hours. Stop in Kasi, a fruit growing area along the way. This journey takes you through spectacular scenery and you might want to stop regularly for photos. Please be aware that there are numerous sharp bends and you will climb/descend a lot of mountains along the way.

Arrive in Vang Vieng, a small town on the banks of the Nam Song River surrounded by spectacular limestone karst scenery.

The rest of the afternoon is free at leisure with your driver and guide at your disposal. You might like to explore nearby caves, villages and an organic farm where you can stop for Mulberry tea.

If you are feeling more active then options include cycling, kayaking, rock climbing, trekking and tubing. These activities are not included and depending on when you arrive you might not have time today.

Otherwise, you might like to relax and enjoy the views. Do not forget to enjoy the sunset on the Nam Song River!

Overnight in Vang Vieng.

Meals: Breakfast

Enjoy an early breakfast before starting the drive to Vientiane. After roughly 1½ hours from Vang Vieng you will reach Nam Ngum Lake, the largest in Laos and a very beautiful spot.

From here the drive to Vientiane takes around 2½ hours. Arrive Vientiane and check into your hotel.

In the afternoon, visit to the Patuxay monument, Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe, where you can climb the stairs to the roof for sweeping panoramic views of the city.

Your tour then ends at That Luang, the holiest site in Laos. Constructed by King Setthethirat in the 16th century, the temple is resplendent as the sun shines upon its towering golden spire.

Overnight in Vientiane.
